In today’s episode discuss the ever-important topic of cleaning and sanitizing cold brew equipment and cold brew draft systems. Using many of the same principles as the beer industry, cleaning and sanitizing cold brew equipment should be a routine step for all those who are making cold brew. As cold brew becomes more and more popular, the process of cleaning and sanitizing cold brew equipment will become more important than it has ever been. Additionally, cleaning and sanitizing equipment is going to help cold brewers produce a more consistent product.
Today, we catch up with Blake Widmer from Deaf Can! Coffee in Jamaica – a not-for-profit venture seeking to engage, equip and empower Deaf youth. Blake joined us way back on episode 7 to talk about their non-profit venture and since then, they’ve expanded and grown into new products and new markets.
On many of our previous episodes, we have alluded to many of the similarities that we see between the craft beer and cold brew coffee industry. On today’s episode, thanks to the help of an article on Perfect Daily Grind (Craft Beer & Specialty Coffee… More Similar Than You Realize), we get into a discussion outlining some of the similarities between the craft beer and the craft coffee industry.
In today’s episode, we once again chat with Denet Lewis from Beans N Barbells and we get schooled on coffee and the coffee plant a bit. We discuss the optimal location for growing coffee, the best climates and what really makes a coffee plant “tick”.
Today, we’re joined by Eric Johnson from Trident Coffee in San Diego. Prior to the show, we sampled about 8-10 different cold brews with Eric, so if we’re talking fast… that’s why. Eric stopped by the “studio” to catch up since his last visit when he joined us on Episode 10 where we talked about the importance of branding and some of the health benefits of cold brew. Then, Eric’s brother Matt joined us in Episode 12 to talk about the not-sexy, but very important topic of cleaning and sanitation and the importance of it.
We also select a new winner for the All-In-One Countertop Nitro Coffee Fridge… we’re really hoping that we get to give this away this time! We read discuss the new Dictionary.com definition of ‘cold brew‘.
Trident is planning to open up their cafe in mid-June to start serving on draft. In the meantime, make sure to check them out online at TridentCoffee.com
